security risks for OS
One Security risk for the operating system is malware which has a bunch of forms and I have just picked 5 of some of the most common types of malware to explain.
1) Adware
Adware serves unwanted or malicious advertising. though most of the time it is mostly harmless and other than being annoying the ads could lead to different types of malware if the user is not careful.
2) Worms
Like a virus, a worm can spread itself to other devices or systems. However, a worm does not infect other programs. Worms often go after known exploits.
3) Viruses
Viruses are the most classic and probably the first thing to come to mind for most people when thinking about things like this. Viruses infect programs and can spread to other systems while doing their main task, viruses basically cling to a file that when it has been opened will start encrypting, corrupting, deleting, or moving your data and files.
4) Trojans
A trojan program pretends to be a legitimate one, but it is in fact malicious. Trojans don’t spread and corrupt multiple files or spread like viruses but instead must be opened or started by the user. A trojan usually comes into your network through email or is pushed to users as a link on a website. Because trojans rely on social engineering to get users to spread and download, they can be more difficult to combat.
5) Bots
A bot programmed software that does not need to be launched, opened, or interacted with for it to start doing bad things will do it all on its own. After it is on your computer it can spread to other computers and software. Then when the bots are all in place the hacker can launch a secret attack without the user knowing.
Some known ways to prevent these malware
There are some things you can do to prevent all these different types of malware if you are good at keeping everything up to date like your OS, web browser, and email clients as well as your firewall and make sure your device is updated with the latest patches will help you with keeping your computer safe from worms and adware. Having a good antivirus is always good for keeping viruses out of your computer. If you don’t want some trojans running around your computer then the best thing to do is not download or click likes from unknown places or people and don’t download things you don’t know what they are going to download.
